What can it treat?
In my experience the most common complaints people have come to me for have been musculoskeletal problems; bad back, knees, shoulders, arthritis etc. This makes sense given my extra work and study in the area of anatomy and therapeutic bodywork. Knowledge of connective tissue structures and an array of soft tissue release techniques mean I can usually find something to help anyone.
I treat a lot of menstrual problems, PMS and painful periods to irregular cycles, excessive menstrual bleeding or amenorrhoea, and infertility as well as menopausal complaints like night sweating, hot flushes and insomnia.
I find acupuncture a very effective medium in such complaints, especially as there is often little available to help through more conventional treatment.
Acupuncture is successful in helping people resolve digestive problems commonly referred to as IBS with symptoms like constipation, loose stools, abdominal pain or bloating and discomfort or indigestion.
I also treat mild depression and psycho-emotional problems, insomnia, anxiety and panic attacks. I also have patients with chronic migraines which are kept under control, asthma and eczema, osteo and rheumatoid arthritis, which are managed.
It may appear that the main areas here, gynaecological, digestive and psychological/ emotional are very separate, but frequently they are linked together in a person's pattern of illness. Chinese medicine gives us a way of making sense of these links and coming to a conclusion about how to treat them.
Many techniques and approaches are at my disposal to work through with the client, to find the best way to manage the problem at hand. The way I integrate my bodywork and traditional acupuncture understanding has been effective time and again.
